The Reason

When Others Won't Believe

Copyright 2006.

Written for an Advent Story project I'm working on. This is from the perspective of a neighbor's son, who saw the camels and the kings visiting Jesus, but was not believed.

This song is so true in our witnessing lives, though - God has instructed us to 'plant the seed' - the Lord Himself gives the increase.

You may not agree with me that 'it's easy to imagine sharing Christ in foreign lands', but in my mind it seems easier to think about being a missionary there where people may not have much but they are OPEN to the gospel, as opposed to being a missionary right here at home, where people have so much that they are resistant to the idea of needing God.

This song hopefully calls us past that fear of rejection, to be willing to plant the seed even to those who may not receive it.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
It's so easy, Lord, to share the truth
With an open-hearted friend
That will listen and believe,
And be in heaven in the end.
But it's hard when people won't believe
And ridicule Your Word
And their heart is far too hard
To be open to the Lord.

Chorus:
But we are told to plant the seed,
No matter what they will receive.
Lord, help me tell the truth
Even when others won't believe.

Verse 2:
Lord, You've promised that Your Word
Would not return with empty hands.
It's so easy to imagine
Sharing Christ in foreign lands
But my neighbor right across the street
Is dying in his sin
And perhaps it wouldn't hurt to try
To share the truth again.

Chorus:
